Position Overview
AE Works is seeking a licensed Electrical Engineering Manager to lead impactful projects and engage our talented team of engineers. In this role, you’ll direct electrical design on large-scale projects, mentor emerging talent, and collaborate directly with clients. Location: Arlington, VA with travel to client and project sites.
Responsibilities
- Electrical Design: Lead the design and oversight of power, lighting, and fire alarm systems for new and renovation building projects across government, healthcare, higher education, and commercial markets. Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations while maintaining design efficiency and cost-effectiveness throughout project phases.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Provide technical leadership by applying expertise in electrical engineering principles, including power distribution, lighting design, and fire alarm systems. Ensure high-quality outcomes through deep knowledge of industry standards, safety regulations, and emerging technologies, while managing complex projects, optimizing system performance, and fostering team innovation.
- Client Collaboration: Work closely with clients to understand their specific needs and requirements. Develop custom electrical solutions that enhance energy efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness while meeting necessary regulations and ensuring both functionality and safety. Travel as needed for on-site collaboration, project assessments, and presentations.
- Technical Documentation: Lead the development of technical documentation, including system specifications, technical reports and narratives, and construction documents.
- Quality Assurance: Perform comprehensive quality assurance reviews of your work and the team's to ensure system designs meet client requirements and operate efficiently, safely, and reliably.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest advancements in electrical design and building industry regulations. Propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance performance and reliability. Mentor and develop the engineering team, championing design standards and fostering professional growth.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, architects, and project managers to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Opportunity Development & Client Engagement: Participate in interviews and presentations to support new business opportunities and strengthen client relationships.
Qualifications
- Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the building industry, with a strong focus on building systems engineering. This includes extensive involvement in the design, coordination, and implementation of electrical systems such as power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems for various market sectors, including healthcare, higher education, and government projects. Candidates should demonstrate a proven ability to lead design efforts, manage multidisciplinary project teams, and ensure compliance with industry codes and standards. Experience with both new construction and renovation projects is required, along with a track record of delivering high-quality, innovative, and cost-effective solutions.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Licensure: PE license required, with the ability to pursue additional state licenses as needed.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Revit and other relevant design software.
- Attributes: Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, and a collaborative approach to leadership.
