AE Works is seeking a talented Architectural Designer with specific Site/Urban Planning experience to join our team. At AE Works, you will be responsible for producing architectural design and construction documents, as well as urban design/planning documents. Individuals qualified for this position shall possess the ability to productively participate in workshops with clients, have clear communication skills (oral and written), analytical and critical thinking skills, and the ability to apply these skills through work in a multi-disciplinary team setting to produce architectural design documents and urban design/site plans. 

This position will be based out of our Pittsburgh, PA, office with occasional travel to our other offices and project/client sites. Role and Responsibilities for Position:

  • Drawing, visualization, and support services for the design team, including planning and design for building projects, including new builds and revitalization planning.
  • Research and due diligence for planning studies, including zoning code analyses and analyses of municipal requirements to support zoning/planning approval processes.
  • Produce high quality deliverables for Clients at all stages of planning, including site analysis, site capacity testing, concept planning, and preparation of planning documents and reports, including a focus on the supporting planning graphics and quantitative analyses.
  • Assist with coordination and project management of site planning and urban design projects.
  • Participate in meetings, internally and externally as needed, to collaborate with other team members and Clients.
  • Travel with team members for onsite collaboration, investigations, and project presentations.
  • Attend interviews for new work opportunities and participate as needed.
  • Participate in corporate activities to support and develop the Triple Bottom Line business model and enhance our B Corp status.

 Technical Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with degree in Architecture or Planning.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience working on building design or master planning (internship experience will be considered).
  • Relevant planning and design experience in areas of federal, healthcare, senior care, higher education, commercial, public safety, and/or local governmental projects.
  • Ability to understand design documents and produce conceptual plans reflecting client vision, site capacity, and the like.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to build relationships with clients and peers.
  • Articulate in both written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skilled with using cloud based and mobile technology for collaboration.
  • Highly proficient in visualization software such as the Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, SketchUp, and AutoCAD, ideally with Revit capabilities.
